From Complexity to Stillness

The Evolution of Alchemy of Bodywork

Over the years my work has moved through many different systems.

Yoga and movement practice.

Biomechanics and structural anatomy.

Chinese medicine and meridian theory.

Somatic awareness and bodywork.

Each of these traditions offered a different way of understanding the body. Each revealed something important about how structure, breath, energy, and emotion interact within the human system.

For a long time, my work became increasingly detailed as I explored these areas more deeply.

And then something interesting happened.

The more I understood about the body, the more I realised that the body already knows how to reorganise itself.

Often it does not need more force or more complicated techniques.

It needs the right conditions.

When the Body Receives Support

Many therapeutic systems focus on correcting the body.

Release this muscle.

Mobilise that joint.

Adjust this structure.

These approaches can certainly help. Yet another perspective begins to appear when we look closely at the nervous system.

When the nervous system settles, the body begins to regulate itself.

Breathing deepens.

Muscular tension softens.

Circulation improves.

Energy begins to move more freely through the body.

Rather than forcing change, the practitioner creates the conditions where the body reorganises naturally.

This insight gradually shifted the direction of my work.

Instead of adding more techniques, the work became simpler and more precise.

The Birth of Alchemy of Bodywork

Alchemy of Bodywork is the evolution of the training that many people previously knew as Bliss Bodywork.

The name reflects something important.

Alchemy describes transformation.

In this work transformation emerges through observation, grounding, and intelligent contact with the body.

Several systems influence the method.

Cranial work shows how gentle support can influence the nervous system and breathing patterns.

Reichian body awareness reminds us that the body stores lived experience through patterns of muscular holding.

Chinese medicine introduces the meridian pathways that regulate circulation and vitality.

Modern fascial anatomy reveals how tension travels through connective tissue networks that run through the entire body.

Alchemy of Bodywork brings these perspectives together into one coherent approach.

The Role of Still Points

At the centre of this work is something known as a still point.

A still point is a moment where the body enters deep quiet.

Breathing slows.

Muscular tone softens.

The nervous system shifts toward regulation.

During this moment circulation through fascia and meridian pathways often reorganises.

The practitioner does not force this process.

Instead, they create stable contact points and allow the body enough time to respond.

Sometimes a simple contact at the foot influences breathing.

Sometimes support at the sternum allows the diaphragm to soften.

Sometimes holding the occiput allows the whole nervous system to settle.

Small points of contact can influence large networks within the body.

Ancient Maps and Modern Anatomy

One of the most fascinating aspects of this work is how different traditions describe the same patterns in the body.

Chinese medicine describes the extraordinary meridians that regulate deeper circulation and vitality.

Modern anatomical research describes myofascial meridian lines that distribute tension through connective tissue networks.

Different languages.

Very similar observations.

Both systems describe the body as a connected web rather than separate parts.

Still point work becomes the place where these maps meet.

Ancient observation and modern science working together.

Why This Work Feels Relevant Now

Modern life places constant demand on the nervous system.

Information moves quickly.

Attention is constantly pulled in different directions.

Many people move through their day in a state of subtle activation.

Learning how to help the body settle and regulate itself has become increasingly valuable.

Still point work offers a way to support this process.

Through grounding, simple contact, and careful observation the practitioner helps the body return to a state where breath, fascia, and circulation can reorganise naturally.

Sometimes the most powerful change begins with something very quiet.

A moment where the body finally slows down.

A Year of Chill Points

This year the Alchemy of Bodywork training focuses on exploring Still Point Technology.

Each month we explore simple contact arrangements that influence the extraordinary meridians, fascial lines, and nervous system regulation.

Over time practitioners develop a deeper understanding of how the body organises itself and how small points of support can influence the entire system.

The work becomes both simple and deeply rich.

And perhaps this year, more than ever, we could all benefit from learning how to create a few more chill points in the body.
