My Journey with Power and Oppression

I’ve had a lingering shoulder injury since leaving Newcastle nine years ago. My move to London was driven by a relationship and a need for change. One weekend, feeling unwell, I sought help from a Chinese medicine clinic in Soho. After a disappointing treatment, I thought, "I could have done a better job myself." This inspired me to set up my own clinic in London, where I thrived for several years.

In my workshops, I faced criticism for my authentic, sometimes blunt, teaching style. One incident involved a student who criticised me for swearing, overshadowing the valuable insights I shared. This experience highlighted how my authenticity and background clashed with others' privileges.

My journey through yoga teaching exposed me to various power dynamics. Assisting Ana Forrest, I observed how some individuals misused their power, leading me to question my own approach. Despite my extensive experience in meditation and alternative medicine, I often felt the need to downplay my gifts to fit in.

Experiencing oppression from multiple angles taught me valuable lessons. Although it was challenging, I realised that building a healthy relationship with power meant overcoming my oppressors and healing the wounds they inflicted. I now strive to avoid those who seek to take power from me and focus on my strengths and authentic self.

I will be adding the theme of working with poor and oppression in my classes for a while, please do let me know if they help you reclaim the essence of your authentic nature!

I have added some new meditations, pranayamas, and ‘under 30 mins’ classes to the library. If you are interested in working out ways to reclaim your power, consider booking a 1-2-1 with me, and I will do my best to read your face, energy, and tap into the wisdom of your story.

If you feel like you would like a different type of volcanic-like powerful experience, then consider joining the Forrest Yoga Advanced Teacher Training in Bali this December https://www.rickysaputrayoga.com/courses/Bali-forrest-yoga-advanced-teacher-training-2024

If Bali is off the radar, then check out the shorter immersions I have happening in Marseille https://www.caroyogablog.com/formation-forrest-yoga
